You Have Been Chosen + Your Work is Precious - You have been chosen to proclaim to your children the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness and into His marvelous light.

Don’t you love it when you are reading through a Scripture passage that you have read many times before, and something jumps out at you that you have never seen, but it is also something that you needed just at that moment? One day last month I was reading this passage in one of my favorite books of the Bible- 1 Peter.

“So put away all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander. Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation—  if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good.

As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For it stands in Scripture:

“Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone,
    a cornerstone chosen and precious,
and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

So the honor is for you who believe, but for those who do not believe,

“The stone that the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone,”

“A stone of stumbling,
    and a rock of offense.”

They stumble because they disobey the word, as they were destined to do.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.”

As I was reading that morning the verses nine and ten stood out to me in a new way. I have been chosen for this work as a mother. The work that I do is precious to Him. So today, as we near the end of this amazing series of posts to offer encouragement to mothers, let’s reflect on these verses for a while.

Momma, You are Chosen

Do you feel like you have been chosen for a great purpose?

These days of changing diapers, cleaning, cooking, carpooling to activities, schooling, and child training seem like they may never end. Living in the season of littles is hard at times!

Your work starts to seem repetitive.

Your days of “sameness” stretch on without end.

But remember this:

You have been chosen by the King of the Universe.

You have been chosen to minister to your husband and family.

You have been chosen to speak light into the darkness.

You have been chosen to proclaim to your children the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness and into His marvelous light.

Momma, You are Precious

The Father sees the things you do, and to Him they are precious. Not because of WHAT you do, but because of WHO you are. If you have accepted His free gift of salvation then you are holy. You are HIS precious daughter.

As your family’s needs press on you, and the worries of this life weight down on you, remember that you are precious in the eyes of the Lord. He placed you here, with your family, for this time. He has a marvelous purpose for you. Right now it may just be raising children and keeping a home. It may include other things. But, whatever it is, you were chosen to bring praise and glory to Him. You are precious in His eyes.

How Can We Apply This?

  • Meditate on the truth that you are chosen and precious. Thank the Father for His mercy and grace in your life.
  • Look for the moments that you can proclaim the Lord’s goodness to your children.
  • Look for the little moments throughout the day that God shows you His love.
  • Take a moment to reevaluate your priorities as a mother. Do the things you value reveal that you know that your work is precious?
