Two years ago, while on a cross country trip over the Christmas holiday, I decided to be intentional about teaching my girls World Geography. We had spent hours in a minivan discussing places we had seen while on the road, when we began discussing mountain ranges. My husband being very knowledgeable in the subject answered the majority of their questions.
It occurred to me that I’d completely forgotten to discuss geography while teaching math, science, history and language arts. Yet geography was a subject the girls clearly had an interest it. Unfortunately, when we returned from out trip, we went right back to our regular routine, and geography, became an after thought.
World Geography for Everyone with Paradigm Accelerated Curriculum (PAC)
After two long years of putting off intentional geography study in our homeschool, I had the chance to check out Paradigm Accelerated Curriculum (PAC) World Geography.
When I think of geography, I think of the physical aspect; maps, mountain ranges and bodies of water. All of which in my mind are simple enough to memorize, and the reason why I had put it off it for so long.
PAC World Geography, has taught me there is so much more.
This volume covers languages, religions, forms of government, economic systems, vegetation and natural resources to name a few. Also, though the text we’ve been using is intended to be used at the high school level, my middle schoolers have taken great advantage of it by listening in to the readings and participating in the discussions.
Since we’ve been traveling, and are currently in the middle of a move, we’ve taken serious advantage of PAC’s digital curriculum.
While on our two-week/3,200 mile road trip last month, we brought our digital copy of our World Geography curriculum, and we had the chance to see and experience the places, terrain, vegetation, and natural resources we’ve been learning about on chapter one.
The Benefits of Paradigm Accelerated Curriculum
Digital Version Available – This made all the difference for us this last month. We were able to take our World Geography curriculum on a two week road trip, and have continued to use the digital version while we’re in at the middle of a move.
All Inclusive -The text includes maps maps, vocabulary words and definitions, facts, points of reference and examples.
Separate Activity Book – I wasn’t too happy this set-up at first. I didn’t like the idea of having to look for the lesson questions in a separate book, however I’ve realized that keeping them separate minimizes distractions. We’re not concerned with trying to figure out what the answers to the questions might be while studying the text. This results in more focused learning.
Teacher Resource Kit – I’m a big fan of answer keys not included in the text. This allows me the teacher to learn alongside the student, and gives me the choice of looking up the answer from a separate text if necessary.
