Thank you for joining me on day 5 of this 20 Days of Worship Through Song series. I encourage you to click on the graphic at the end of the page to catch up on previous days in case you’ve missed them.
Today’s song is What Do I Know of Holy by Addison Road. Have you ever sat in church and felt like the message that was being preached, or the story that was being told was just for you? Remember the conviction of the Holy Spirit? Or how humbled you felt that the Lord would deliver the message that YOU needed to hear?
I could cite scripture that comes to mind every time I hear this song, but I wont. Instead I will say that this song drives me to a deeper relationship with Christ simply because I feel as if it was written for me and about me.
I came to a relationship with the Lord when I was 12, I was baptized at 13 and my faith was on fire at 14. By the time I was 16 I didn’t know the Lord at all.
I knew all the stories and I learned to talk about
How You were mighty to save
Those were only empty words on a page
I was familiar with all the Christian lingo. I liked the popular Christian bands, I was member of my high school’s Christian club. I even went street witnessing from time to time.
I tried to hear from Heaven
But I talked the whole time
For years I attended church, sang songs, and as much as it breaks my heart to admit it, I prayed to Him almost out of obligation.
When I introduced this series I mentioned that as writers, we are often exposed.
This is me exposed.
Probably not what you were expecting, but the point of this series is after all is to share songs that drive me closer relationship with Him.
In 2006, I caught a glimpse of His glory. It’s that glimpse that still fuels my faith today. I long for the day when I will see all of His glory.
Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?”
And the Lord said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.”
Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”
And the Lord said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
I am His. He knows me by name.
